Applications Engineering Director

Position Overview
This is an opportunity to assume the senior management role for the Mobile Power Management Applications Engineering team within Broadcom Corporation, which is growing team of approximately 20 engineers located in Irvine, San Jose, and Korea. This position assists in defining system level power management requirements for Broadcom’s Wireless Connectivity and Mobile Platform Groups’ chipset solutions, ownership for chip and system level performance verification of these highly integrated power management IC’s, and front-line customer support. The power management IC (PMIC) integrates complex mixed-signal and logic design that includes high frequency multi-mode switching regulators, LDOs, RTCs, audio amps, backlight boost, battery chargers etc., with complex system usage models.

Responsibilities of the team to be managed include:
• Assist in system level architectural definition of highly integrated power management ICs for portable devices
• Interface with marketing and design teams to prepare internal design specs
• Design evaluation boards and author user manuals for PMIC.
• Generate PMIC detailed test and characterization plans and reports
• Provide internal teams with detailed input and feedback on product performance, and optimization opportunities for targeted applications.
• Support internal platform teams during system integration and bring-up phases
• Conduct chip and system level failure and root cause analysis
• Author datasheets, application notes, design notes and other technical articles/user documentation
• Product technical launches and customer visits to secure design-in
• Provide Sales and FAE training as needed
• Participate in industry Standards forums (USB, MIPI SPMI, etc)
Job Requirements :  • MSEE/ PhD (focus on Power Electronics a strong plus)
• At least 10 years of experience in semiconductor industry, or system level design experience (experience in mobile handheld power mgmt preferred).
• Requires a solid engineering background and proven people management skills

• Program Management and Process Development experience
• Software development background
• Extensive experience with lab test equipment and IC test techniques and evaluation
• Strong skills in data analysis and technical reporting
• Strong communication skills, experience in managing teams, self starter and ability to work across multiple functions and geographies.
